FOR U stands for: functional, operable, reliable, and usable. That means that all PTK FOR U seminars are designed to teach you Pekiti-Tirsia Kali in a way that is functional, applicable, reliable, and useful for you.
This seminar series is for everyone who wants to be a Pekiti-Tirsia Kali trainer.
To become a trainer, you need to pass four exams:
Yakan (beginning students who are dedicated to learning the basics of PTK)
Lakan (advanced students who have a solid foundation in PTK)
Lakan Guro (assistant trainer, advanced students; learns how to teach and lead by working as an assistant trainer)
Guro (trainer, capable of teaching technical prowess in PTK)
Training for each exam takes approx. one year. The content of the exams will be taught in compact seminars or in weekly courses of Berlin Kali School.
These seminars are in essence open to everyone and do not require prior experience. You will quickly learn how to use your voice as defense and how to plan and secure your escape. We will also show you how to defend yourself against being held down or strangled. Besides that, a component of the seminar series focuses on effective defense against multiple opponents as well as ground fighting. Furthermore, we will train you on how to handle situations in which you are threatened with cutting or stabbing weapons. We will also address using legal weapons, such as pepper spray or tasers.
These seminars are geared towards instructing women and girls who are interested in getting into self-defense and would rather train in a women’s group first.
You will learn how to analyze and gauge dangerous situations. In addition, you will learn to adopt good habits that help you avoid danger and protect yourself in many different scenarios. You will also train in searching for and providing help. We will teach you how to sidestep dangers effectively, negotiate, escape, and—when necessary—attack. You will also learn how to use objects that you carry around with you on a daily basis, such as a purse, scarf, or umbrella, for self-defense.
